My love-hate relationship with foundation.

I have a love-hate relationship with foundation. Some days I absolutely love the way my foundation looks on my skin; and some days it seems to go on patchy and I really hate it. However, we know that a good foundation creates a flawless face canvas, so no doubt it is the most important step in creating beautiful make-up finish. I desperately need a good one. So when I got the invite to try out Shu Uemura products available on sephora.my, I decided to invest in a good foundation.

Shu Uemura has two well known foundation: Face Architect and The Lightbulb. Both have good reviews online, promise reliable coverage and a wide selection of neutral shades that match real skin tones. I decided to give Face Architect a try :)

Shu Uemura Face Architect Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation, as its name suggests, takes the architectural approach to analyze bone structure, skin thickness, and facial features. Shu Uemura believes that with deeper understanding of human face, one is able to layer and sculpt the foundation in the best way to enhance the beautiful features of each individual. There are multiple shades available to answer individual needs of various skin. Found my shade 554 Medium Sand.

My verdict? The foundation feels pretty light and pleasant on the skin. The amount of coverage was fine, not to the extent of flawless but it certainly covers flaws. Use Shu Uemura Face Powder Matte (here) to set your foundation after application.

La Vie En Rose: The Heist - Agent Lola

What a long and tiring day. Agent Lola just finished a hot bath and changed into her sweet pajamas.
A sweet and demure young woman she is.

On her bed, she is working on a small tablet.

Her eyes are heavy and sore, but she is determined to locate the lost money.

She has a good feeling today.

Slowly she inserts a series of number to the tablet from the note she obtained this afternoon.

The waiting time is killing. She wonders if the world stops turning; if time itself pauses and everything is on hold.

Her heart is pounding in her chest.

*Loading....*

And Voila! The location is not so far from her. She smiles: ''I got you.''

La Vie En Rose: The Heist - Behind The Scene

On the 15th of June, I was given a new life.

Ma Cherie Johor Bloggers made their debut recently and everyone was curious - who are they? What are they going to do next? If you read the beautiful story of Ma Cherie in my previous post, you will know that Ma Cherie is a group of eleven ladies with big dreams brought together by fate, and decided to pursue their dreams together. And now, we proudly present to you our debut project - La Vie En Rose: The Heist, which is our first fashion editorial project.

The mastermind behind this project, who is also our script writer for the story, Eryn, got her inspiration when a song came across her mind - ''La Vie en Rose'' sung by French singer Édith Piaf. It means "Life Through Rose-Colored Glasses" in French. What it tries to portrait is that when we view the world through rose-colored glasses, things seem to be better than they really are. With that cheerful and optimistic perception of things, Ma Cherie girls found the courage to dream even bigger. Eryn couldn't help but being captivated by the beautiful melody of the song.

Everything is rosy now.

Looking at the world and everything that passes,

Seems of rosy hue somehow.

Man, money and power. Eryn decided that the story will revolve around these three things, which women believe they could use these to control their destiny. Hence lead to the never ending chase. Friedrich Nietzsche once said that, “In revenge and in love woman is more barbaric than man is”. They are willing to do anything to fulfill their desires. Betrayals, dirty tricks, exploitation.

Mind you, we are talking about beautiful woman with both brain and beauty.

The project aims for us to step out of our comfort zone to challenge a new look or style that we have never tried before. And I was given this role - Agent Lola, a young lady who smiles like an angel to cover up the fact that she is working for an underground association. This is the first time I am participating in a photo shoot project like this, so I get really nervous and uneasy that I have to pose in front of the camera. And if you knew me you would know that I seldom dress in this way or put on such heavy make up. (I hope I look okay?) So I see this project as a major break through to me!

The photo shoot turned out to be a huge success because I have the most professional team to back me up. I have Eryn, who put in so much effort, from preparing the script, styling my look to guiding me throughout the photo shooting. I have Kelvin, our photographer who spent hours to try shooting from different angles so that we all look good in the photos. I have Jennifer, who put on the best make up for me so that I look flawless in front of the camera. Not forgetting the other Ma Cherie girls who are ever supportive and encouraging. This is something we have been working on for months, it is our labour of love. I am blessed to have all of you with me in this memorable event of my life. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

[FOOD REVIEW] Absolute Thai @ KSL City Mall, Johor Bahru.

Sa-Waa-Dee-Kha! I am not a big fan of Thai cuisine. But I love Thai food - the variety of ingredients, the array of flavours and colours, the dynamic combinations. And if you tried Absolute Thai, you will agree with me that they serve the best Thai food in town. Ma Cherie Johor Bloggers are honored to be invited to a food review at Absolute Thai, KSL City Mall. The girls were all hyped up when we first got the invitation. Everyone was all ready for the big feast and the awaiting spiciness.

Absolute Thai has a total of fourteen branches spread across Klang Valley and Johor, with three of them located in Johor - KSL City, Johor Premium Outlets and Mall of Medini. They serve reasonable authentic Thai cuisine in a chic and modern interior.

The central theme of wood and brick accented with borders of black and red is preserved throughout its outlets, as is the mix of vintage and modern artwork that adorns its walls.

Thai Mango Salad with Crispy Catfish RM15.90

If you want to know a little about Thai cuisine and what makes it so engaging, start with this salad!

The manager of Absolute Thai, Wei Wei showed us how the Thais eat this dish. Crush the crispy catfish into small pieces and mix with the crunchy mango. This salad will blow you away with its tastebud-awakening flavors. It is fruity, sweet, sour and salty! I love the crunchiness of the fresh mango.

Thai Fish Cake (4 Pieces) RM9.90

Thai Fish Cakes are a common street food in Thailand.

The fish cakes are served with Thai sweet chili sauce and chopped cucumber. They aren't battered, which I find allows for more of the fresh taste of the fish, spices, and herbs to come through. It was a little too spicy for me to handle. I had to drink a whole glass of water to relieve the spiciness. (Hey wait, this is still an appetizer!)

Pineapple Fried Rice with Prawns RM16.90

Another signature dish of Thailand, beautifully served in a carved-out pineapple.

Look at the crunchy cashew nuts, chicken floss and the mouth-watering big prawns on top of it. Not to mention the juicy pineapple, onions and generous amount of sweet raisins in the fried rice. Puurrrrfect.

Tom Yam Soup

The highlight of the night - hot and sour tom yam with seafood, the classic Thai soup. Don't be deceived by the clear broth. it definitely tastes spicier than that! Never judge a book by its cover, eh? ;) It is best enjoyed accompanied by white rice. Packed with fragrant Thai herbs and spices, first drink of it and it awakened my senses and set my tongue alive. And I was left with a very pleasant heat in my mouth. The fish is also fresh plus my favourite mushrooms. Wow. I love it!

The fiery looking red tom yam is actually less spicy than the clear based tom yam! Wei Wei explained to us that coconut milk is added in the red based tom yam, which explains the slightly sweeter broth.

All the Ma Cherie ladies love the tom yam! :D

Stir-fried Bean Curb with Hot Basil Leaves RM12.90

Stir fried bean curd served with ground peanuts in sweet and sour sauce. A good side dish to go with the tom yam. Best served hot!

Sizzling Ming Prawns with Tamarind Sauce RM38.90

Just so you know, Tamarind sauce is also known as sweet and sour sauce. The prawns are really huge and delicious. Hmm slightly overpriced, perhaps?

Thai Iced Coffee and Thai Iced Tea look like the famous Sarawak three layer tea. Absolute Thai uses only tea leaves and coffee powder imported from Thailand to ensure the quality of the drinks!

Mango with Sticky Rice RM11.90

First thing comes to my mind when talking about Thai food - so how could I miss this? Sticky rice paired with sweet coconut milk topping and cool mango slices is a refreshing pairing to spicy Thai meal. Must-try!

Water Chestnut in Coconut Milk Topped with Jack fruits RM7.90

I enjoy admiring the small reddish jewels in it. A refreshing way to end the meal. :D
